What is WATER WARS?

It's tug of war... in a dragon boat! Two teams of four paddlers each sit facing away from each other in a dragon boat that normally seats 10 people! They paddle furiously until one team crosses the centre line and is declared the winner!

Equipment FAQ

What type of boats do you use?

The boats used in this event are Champion 10-man dragon boats. We don't use full-sized 20-man boats purely because of size restrictions getting the boats into the building.

Can I use my own paddle and life jacket?

You will be provided with a life jacket and a paddle. Life jackets must be worn when in the boat.

Participants are welcome to use their own paddle and PFD (provided it meets all relevant safety standards). Life-belt or inflatable PFD's are permitted for use in this event.

Please note you will be paddling in chlorinated water, and this may be damaging to your personal life jacket. The Calgary Dragon Boat Society and the University of Calgary assume no responsibility for any loss or damage to your personal equipment resulting in your participation in the event.

Can I wear shoes?

Ourdoor shoes are not permitted on the pool deck. Water shoes are welcome.

Can I use a seat pad?

Absolutely. Any IDBF-approved seat pad is welcome in this event.

Did you fix the foot bracing issue in the back of the boat from last year?

You bet we did! We got some engineering-types to put on their thinking caps and come up with a great solution for us!
